A Short Note Catching You Up On Our Busy, Busy Adventure!

Hello friend!

Sadly, we've (temporarily!) dropped "hola" from our vocabulary over the past 6 weeks since leaving Baja. But that doesn't keep us from thinking about the beauty of its people, landscapes and wildlife on a regular basis.

A lot has happened for us since we left. We made a quick trip to Los Angeles for a custom install of a very important RV essential and to build a relationship with a really great RV brand that we'll share more about in a future update!

From Los Angeles we made the long drive straight across the US to North Georgia, where we spent a week with Lindsay's mother and older sister and her family. Most of our life on the road keeps us out West, so time with family is precious when we make it back east.

Following that week, we drove 5 hours south to our hometown of Jacksonville, Florida where we spent the next 3 weeks visiting my family, Lindsay's brother and all of our good friends we've missed. Although Lindsay made it back to Florida last summer when her father passed away, it was not a social trip for her. And it was nearly 2 years since I had been back.

Needless to say, time with our family and dearest friends made us look at life on the road with bittersweet fondness. The more time we spent with the people we love made us realize how much we missed having daily routines that involved them. But the longer we were stationary, the more we longed for the road.

Though we crossed our 5 year "Road-a-versary" on March 28, we are still learning things about life on the road, such as finding the balance between travel and non-travel.

On that note, we spent 8 days driving back across America to where we are currently work camping in Custer State Park, South Dakota. Along the way, we were able to visit dear friends in Taos, New Mexico who are river guides that took us white water rafting on the Rio Grande.

They're headed down to Argentina along the Pan Am at the end of summer - fulfilling the dream that first brought Lindsay and I to the road in the first place. We won't see these friends for at least 2 or 3 years, so we appreciate having a lifestyle that gives us the ability to adjust our plans and route to prioritize them.

We also spent a few short days in Colorado Springs with friends that go back 25 years to my high school days. And from there, we made the last leg of the drive north to Custer in 2 days of pouring rain.

With so much going on, we also purchased our first "toad" (towed) vehicle, a 2010 Honda CRV, that is giving us a new way to explore the areas that we visit. That decision led us to a great relationship with the leading tow bar manufacturer that was excited about our adventure and sent us all of the towing equipment needed to bring the CRV with us.

Again, we'll share more about that experience in the near future - in the event you're in a position of determining whether or not you want or are able to tow a vehicle with your RV (it is both easier and more challenging than you would imagine!).

It's been busy for us, and getting busier as the summer travel season will soon be kicking off here in the Black Hills of South Dakota. We work camped here last year and LOVED the experience so much that, despite our love for constant travel, we decided to return.

We have an amazing boss (arguably the best I've had in over 25 years of working!), incredible colleagues from around the world (some of whom are fellow full-time RVers work camping their way around the country) and wonderful guests that pass through the lodge.

All of this is to say, we have loads to unpack for you about the really cool things that are going on behind the scenes for us with Called To Wander!

I hate apologizing for life getting the best of us lately and being so delayed in sending an update. But I do have to apologize for not making the time over the past few weeks to fill you in on what's going on with Chris & Lindsay + Everest + Huckleberry!

However, I'm putting a plan together to share regular updates on what's happening in our lives and how we're working harder than we have ever worked to be able to inspire, encourage and provide as much information as we can to help you with your journey!

And if you're following along for Baja-related updates... DON'T leave us just yet! We have SO MUCH happening in regard to our RVing and Camping brand, and we'll soon start releasing Baja-specific updates via a separate newsletter via our RVingBaja.com website. If you haven't gone over there yet to subscribe to that newsletter, give it a look.

Specific things to note:

We're grateful you've taken the time to continue to be a part of our wander! Whether you've just joined us or you've been a part of our wander for years, we couldn't imagine life without you!

Much love,

Chris & Lindsay + Everest + Huckleberry!

Greetings! When Lindsay and I were struggling with which decision to make at the beginning of June, it occurred to us that the Black Hills of South Dakota are an incredibly special place. Historically, they were (are) considered sacred by Native American tribes and we’ve learned there is still an undercurrent of activity to try and restore them as such. If you spend any time out here, you will quickly understand why they are so special. Sure, they lack the majesty of 14,000-foot peaks of the...

Hello Friend, Lindsay and I were driving back from a medical appointment the other day when Pink Floyd’s “Money” passed through our playlist. We typically skip this song and other Pink Floyd songs as they tend to evoke a part of my past that I rarely relate to these days. But as the base guitar laid down the catchy beat and the cash register chimed the unique intro, I looked over at Lindsay and we both agreed with a smile and nod to let the song play this time. Our appointment was in Rapid...

Hola! (Please note, this is another Baja-specific email. If you joined our mailing list for non-Baja-specific content, please know that what we are trying to do in Baja is at the heart of who we are and we hope you’ll stick it out with us!) As we continue to roll out the details of the first edition of our “Wander to Baja” RV meetup event in La Paz February 19-23, 2024 we want to introduce you to what we believe will be a truly unique and transformative way for you to experience more during...
